Biodiversity

The diversity of the Western Cape is reflected in its natural splendour that is conserved within its various nature reserves. For many overseas travellers, and locals too, a visit to a nature reserve in the Western Cape seems to stop at the Table Mountain National Park and Cape Point.
However, with such diversity as the charm of the west coast, the grandeur of the Cederberg, the fynbos-clad mountains of the south-western Cape to the semi-arid spaciousness of the Little Karoo and Karoo, and the mystery of the Garden Route, there is so much more to explore for nature lovers and tourists alike.
Although many are officially protected under the management of conservation bodies like the South African National Parks and CapeNature, the enterprise of private landowners, municipalities and other local authorities have also helped to establish reserves.
Many of these are open for day visitors, while others provide accommodation, camping facilities, and outdoor activities like hiking, 4x4-routes, kayaking and mountain biking.
