A VISITOR'S DAY IN STANFORD
Slowly awaken to the twittering of birds, the odd low of a cow heavy with milk, against a background of country silence and tranquillity. Father sun's teasing fingers gently whispering about the lovely summers day. Lie there, relaxed from a wonderful, peaceful night’s sleep and plan your day.
Maybe a gentle walk, breathing the fresh country air, along the walking trail that meanders next to the river and through the town.
Country breakfast in one of the delis or bistros, followed by another stroll through the leafy green streets to look at the quaint old buildings of centuries past and visit the many shops of interest: art, craft, antiques, collectables, Ardmore pottery, afro-euro influenced household items, "high class junk", second hand bits and pieces and a plant nursery.
Late morning possibly a visit to the dairy and cheese farm to sample the Gruyere, Leiden, Colby and Danbo cheeses, followed by a leisurely lunch at the unique beer estate, tasting the varieties of beer brewed there.
Perhaps now a leisurely snooze on the patio of our delightful home from home, in one of Stanford's many and varied rustic holiday lodgings.
A late afternoon sundowner river cruise... or maybe hire a dinghy or canoe and enjoy watching the wealth of birdlife on the river banks, as well as possibly spotting a turtle or otter in the water... the water... a swim in the river, now that would be great!
Just right to build up an appetite for dinner... dinner... decisions, decisions... the restaurants in Stanford serve such good food and their friendly atmospheres... which to choose... No rush... I'm going to lie here in this comfy bed end enjoy the peace, the tranquillity and doze - no work, no worries.. no stress... no responsibilities.... no traffic..... clear country air..... this is the life!
