This piece of paradise is situated in the southernmost part of the Cederberg, in the Koue Bokkeveld between Citrusdal and Ceres on the R303. Being part of the Cederberg Leopard Conservation area, we're also protecting a large variety of small game which may be observed by spotlight during night rides. It is 30 km from Citusdal and 90km from Ceres. The farm was developed 19 years ago. Only 30 hectare are farmed with fruit, the rest - 1 400 hectare, is virgin land. Nature at its best! Suikerbossie is known for its river, canyons, and beautiful rock formations. It is a paradise for swimming in the summer. The Koue Bokkeveld's best kept secret!

If you like water or hiking, Suikerbossie offers you canyons with the most beautiful waterfalls, during early summer, hiking trails (The Donkey trail) , a river for fishing and canoeing, and nature at its most alluring.

Remember to bring the following: bathing suit, angling equipment, hat, binoculars, sun block, walking shoes, bird and mammal reference books and snorkelling equipment. During summer, you can pick your own basket of fruit at different prices (depending on the basket size) from a choice of peaches, pears and citrus. Yes, citrus grows here in the summer! Lovely walks through "fynbos", down canyons, over streams. The veld is at its best during the winters, spring and early summers.

GAZEBO Camping sites:
We have 3 gazebos:
  • one with an abode with 2 double beds, and space for a double bunk on request and 4 single under the gazebo part. - Waterfallcamp
  • one with a caravan, with a double bed and 2 single - Ghoeboontjiecamp
  • and at the third, you bring your own tents. - Kuilcamp

Two are on the river bank -
Kuilkamp and Doepboontjiekamp, and the third one, above a waterfall. The Waterfall runs strongly during early summer but because it is in a 'kloof' by mid to late summer we have to pump water to the waterfall during the day.

All three gazebos are thatched with built-in tables and working surfaces.

The best of their features is the fact that they are right next to the water!

    The Kuilcamp
This camping site is next to the river, in fact, so close that you can sit under the gazebo with your fishing rod in the water! It consists of:
  • a big thatched gazebo (60 square meters) with a built-in kitchen working space,
  • a gas stove,
  • 2 oil lamps,
  • a deep freeze 100 meters away at the pump house, and a counter fridge at hand.
  • There is a built-in table and chairs to seat 12 people, braai facilities, and lots of nature upon which to feast your eyes and ears.

Part of the gazebo's side is covered with net and reeds. Some people put their own tents up, but others simply sleep under the gazebo.

The plus points at this site are the white sand for the children and small shallow shore before going into the wide and deep river. There is a Tarzan swing. Nearby, at the water wheel, there are lovely rock pools for the kids to play in.

A nice spot for fishing, swimming, bird watching, canoeing and snorkelling, for a big group of people.

    Ablution:
Each camp has its own toilet, which consists of a bucket build into a box with a toilet seat and lid. The buckets are cleaned twice daily. The toilets are flushed by big pieces of paper provided. Why not flush toilets?? Too close to the river and will cause water pollution.

It has a roofless shower with a view for the taller amongst us, with a wonderful view and only fitted with cold water, which is heated during the day by the son. So early evening showers are advised.

The only thing between the gazebo and the river, 4 meters away, is the big Ghoeboontjie trees . This trees, provide shade over the lawn and a nice chair to sit on, while your feet is hanging in the water, if you care to climb a tree!.

The caravan at this site, is renovated and has a double bed with two singles.

The build-in kitchen is outside under the thatch and is closed in, on two sides for protection against the elements. It is fully equipped.
