LOCATION
STELLENBOSCH – A TOWN FOR ALL SEASONS
With its glorious scenery, close proximity to Cape Town and array of award-winning wineries, Stellenbosch is one of South Africa and The New Wine World’s most popular destinations for lovers of wine and food.

The historic town of Stellenbosch, the second oldest in South Africa, developed from a colony of settlers to whom land had been granted on the bank of the Eerste River. The name Stellenbosch was given by Governor Simon van der Stel who in 1697 encamped there with his entourage. The avenues of oaks are lined with Cape Dutch, Georgian and modern Victorian architecture of which many are now national monuments and are jealously guarded for future generations. Over the years Stellenbosch has grown into a vast academic and cultural centre. Its internationally acclaimed university draws thousands of students annually and the flourishing wine industry takes visitors along the wine route to celebrated cellars.

One of these cellars is undoubtly the Rustenberg winery with its classic Cape Dutch buildings and a tradition of winemaking that spans three centuries.

The magnificent mountains and hills surrounding the town offer unequalled opportunities for golfing, hiking, horse-riding, cycling, hot-air ballooning, hand-gliding and many more activities.

GOLF
In the heart of the Winelands and amid mountainous scenery lie the following international renowned golf estates all in close proximity of your “home”.

Stellenbosch Golf Club: - with some holes bordering the vineyards, this is a parkland layout that is a delight to play, with large trees framing the holes and surrounded by mountain slopes under vine.

Spier Golf Estate: - the holes are set on rolling and undulating terrain and meander between grape on the vine, fruit on the tree and an array of superb water features.

Boschenmeer Golf Club – set in the Paarl Valley area and designed by David Frost, the 27 holes offer a splendid mix of tree-lined fairways, and challenging and visually spectacular water features, all leading to superb, large greens.

Erinvale Golf Estate: host of the World Cup of golf in 1996 and designed by Gary Player, this golf course has two very different moods. The first nine holes are built on flat terrain, with strategic water hazards and an array of different style bunkers. The second nine holes are on undulating high ground.

Pearl Valley Golf Estate: designed by Jack Nicklaus, this golf course fits in with the environment. This fairly flat and largely uninterrupted terrain enabled him to develop hole strategies making this a golf course the golfer has to think his/her way around.
