Harveys, the signature restaurant at Winchester Mansions in Sea Point, has once again scooped the highest accolade at the 2008 Diners Club Winelist Awards – the Diamond Award – for its innovative approach and fine collection of boutique wines. This is the third year running that this leading beachfront boutique hotel has received this prestigious award, previously known as Award of Excellence. “Winning the highest category of this highly coveted wine list award is a recognition of the hard work and research that goes into creating such a product. We are proud to offer our guests not only good quality wines, but also wines that complement the dishes on our menus. Older wines as well as a comprehensive list of Garagiste and rare wines are also an important feature,” said assistant Food & Beverage Manager Dirk van Niekerk, who is the architect of the award winning wine list and a budding Garagiste himself. In keeping with the boutique style of Winchester Mansions Hotel, they have focused their efforts in building their wine collection by partnering with wineries who share the same vision and goals as the hotel, that being small, unique and of a personalised nature where each glass of wine is the ultimate experience. On their wine list you will find wines from hand selected, family-owned farms as well as some of the most established and well known wineries. Taking the promotion of small scale winemaking to the ultimate, the wine list also dedicates an entire page to the Garagiste movement giving Winchester Mansions guests the opportunity to experience these rare, hand crafted wines. The restaurant recently expanded its impressive wine collection with the opening of a Vinothèque. The climate controlled Vinothèque offers a wide selection of South African wines ranging from Stellenbosch to Wellington, Cape Aghulas to Franschhoek, Elgin to Constantia, Worcester to Tulbagh. In total, the Vinothèque boasts a collection of 2000 bottles. For reservations at Harveys at the Mansions call: Tel: (021) 434 2351 or send an email to
